We’ll look at its humble beginnings in 2000, to its heralded success today, and where it may go in the future.
Cadillac’s Motorsport History
At the turn of the century, Cadillac’s parent company General Motors announced that Cadillac would be making its return to international motorsports with the Cadillac Northstar LMP program. The program would utilize racing manufacturer Riley & Scott to build a prototype race car mated with Cadillac’s Northstar V8 powertrain.
The car, dubbed the Cadillac Northstar LMP, competed at races in North America and Europe, where it achieved moderate. In 2001, the design of the car was tweaked for better aerodynamics, much in the same way Sulphur, LA drivers can enjoy with a new Cadillac CT5-V.
