Some two decades ago, Cadillac set out to make their mark in motorsports as they did back in the 1950s. Today, Cadillac has proven its mettle, winning races all around North America at the top level of competition. At Navarre Cadillac near Orange, TX, we want to share a brief history of Cadillac’s presence in motorsports.

We’ll look at its humble beginnings in 2000, to its heralded success today, and where it may go in the future.

Cadillac’s Motorsport History

At the turn of the century, Cadillac’s parent company General Motors announced that Cadillac would be making its return to international motorsports with the Cadillac Northstar LMP program. The program would utilize racing manufacturer Riley & Scott to build a prototype race car mated with Cadillac’s Northstar V8 powertrain.

The car, dubbed the Cadillac Northstar LMP, competed at races in North America and Europe, where it achieved moderate. In 2001, the design of the car was tweaked for better aerodynamics, much in the same way Sulphur, LA drivers can enjoy with a new Cadillac CT5-V.

With a renewed focus on improvement, Cadillac would put much of their effort into the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, where one of the two cars entered finished. After which, Cadillac returned to North America, where it achieved its best result of 3rd at Mosport in Canada. Cadillac would end the program a year later after a disappointing year that saw no improvement.

In 2004, Cadillac would reenter motorsports at a smaller scale, with the Cadillac CTS-V entering the GT World Challenge Series in North America. It would win multiple manufacturer’s championships for the next several years and make the CTS-V a household name for motorsports enthusiasts. Lake Charles, LA drivers, can thank the CTS-V for setting the bedrock for dynamic performance and design.

Today, Cadillac continues to be a force in motorsports with Cadillac DPI-V.R, winning multiple endurance races around North America, including the 24 Hours of Daytona. From what we understand, Cadillac will continue its endurance racing program with the Project GTP car, slated to launch next year.
